Olivia Coleman stars as Queen Elizabeth II in the upcoming season of The Crown. The role was previously played by Claire Foy in season 1 and 2.
Netflix released the trailer for the new season on Thursday. The teaser starts off with Coleman’s character choosing a portrait of herself. One portrait is of a young Claire Foy when she was playing the young Queen. The other is of Coleman as the Queen.
One of the men says, “Everyone was delighted with the new profile, ma’am, which they feel to be an elegant reflection of her majesty’s transition from young woman to…”
The Queen also adds, “Old bat?”
However, the man quickly says, “Settled sovereign. Just the tiniest changes.”
To which Coleman (Elizabeth) replies, “A great many changes. Nothing one can do about it. One just has to get on with it.”
Furthermore, Outlander’s Tobias Menzies will star as Prince Phillip. The role was previously played by Matt Smith. While, Helena Bonham Carter will take on the role of Princess Margaret, previously played by Vanessa Kirby. Gillian Anderson has been cast as Margaret Thatcher.
Other new cast members have also been announced for season 4. Josh O’Connor from The Durrells’ who will play the role of a young Prince Charles. Meanwhile, Emma Corrin has been cast as Princess Diana.
Furthermore, The Crown season 3 will focus on the years 1964-1977. This includes the reign of Prime Minister Harold Wilson, the moon landing, as well as Princess Margaret’s affair.
