Manchester United to sign Lille goalkeeper Mike Maignan for £31m. Man Utd is in search of David De Gea’s replacements in case he leaves this summer.
David De Gea’s Manchester United contract is ending next summer. The European has demanded £350,000 a week and has already rejected United’s Highest offered contract. This might force Manchester United to sell the goalkeeper. The Spaniard has been voted United Player of the Year four times within the past seasons, and is a definite fan favorite There has been a recent downfall in his performance however United are still willing to keep him.
Best goalkeeper in Ligue1
Maignan got titled as the best goalkeeper in Ligue1. United have now held initial discussions with Lille over him. “Maignan is part of a team which achieved a superb championship,” said France coach Didier Deschamps, adding, “He oozes serenity, his athletic presence is impressive.”
In addition, Man Utd have been looking at Maignan, Onana and Barcelona’s Jasper Cillessen as their potential replacements.
“Man Utd have now been in contact with Lille and enquired about Maignan’s availability with the Lille president” told Duncan Castles. He further said, “[Goalkeeper is] one of the positions that Manchesterr United don’t actually want to reinforce in but have had to go seeking potential reinforcements because they have not managed to agree a new contract with David De Gea and are increasingly concerned they’re gonna lose him this summer,” he told The Transfer Window podcast.
Lastly, De Gea’s exit could be a massive blow for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team. United are hopeful persuade the player into a new deal. However, if they fail to do so, they might have to sell him and look for a replacement.
