The heart-wrenching picture of an elderly widower from Texas, seen dining alone on Valentine’s day, is breaking the internet!
The man was dining alone on a table set for two, with an urn containing his wife’s ashes placed in front of him. The table was complete with two glasses of wine and a Valentine’s Day card.
Valentine’s Day is usually exciting if you’ve someone to celebrate it with. There are gifts, sweet nothings and a lot of appreciation for loved ones.
However, a woman dining at a restaurant on the holiday captured a different – and rather heartbreaking – Valentine’s Day tale.
The woman, Chasidy Gwaltney, was eating lunch on Valentine’s day at a restaurant when she saw something that made her heart sink.
She saw an elderly man eating at a table that he was sharing with his late wife’s ashes in an urn. He sat alone with two wine glasses in front of him, and tears in his eyes.
“I saw something today that has made me remember that we won’t always have each other to hold, talk to, love, play with or even just aggravate every now and then. This picture speaks loudly and it may hurt your heart as it has mine,” she said.
The table had a Valentine’s Day card placed on it, saying ‘you & me’ on the cover.
Chasidy shared the photo of the man, advising readers to appreciate the love they have around them. She also insisted that appreciation should not only be reserved for holidays like Valentine’s Day.
“We are all guilty of taking our other half for granted from time to time,” Chasidy said.
She continued, “We may forget to give a goodbye kiss, say I love you or just be so caught up in what we are doing at the moment that we don’t notice the very little things that mean so much to our special someone.”
Chasidy’s words have had a strong impact.
It was obvious that the elderly widower was still so in love with his late wife that he continued to take her out to dinner, in a fashion.
“This man looks like he is spending Valentine’s Day alone at first glance but that is actually his wife in that very beautiful bottle sitting on the table,” Chasidy said.
“Apparently his love for her was and still is very strong as he takes her ashes out for a Valentine’s lunch date together,” she added.
“He even bought her a glass of wine… Please love your Sweetheart while you have the opportunity, you never know what tomorrow will bring or take away!” she concluded.
Her photo went viral and attracted over 445,000 likes and over 360,000 shares on social media networks.
It even sparked online activity. Lovers all over the world tagged their significant others to remind them they loved them.
One woman wrote, “He is living proof that love never dies even after we’re gone.”
“I understand his feelings completely. My husband passed away 12 years ago. I miss him every day,” another woman said.
The photo has given everyone a reminder: don’t take your loved ones for granted. You never know what might happen!
