NASA faces the first space crime report by astronaut Summer Worden, who claimed her estranged wife Anna McClain stole money from her while she was in space.
NASA is currently looking into the accusations against US Army lieutenant colonel Anne McClain. According to The New York Times, McClain gained access to Worden’s accounts using NASA’s computers. She then accessed it to obtain custody of Worden’s son.
The move was a “highly calculated and manipulated campaign,” Worden told the Federal Trade Commission. Her money had not been tampered with but she claimed McClain committed identity theft. Worden’s parents also filed a complaint against NASA’s Office of Inspector General. NASA’s officials have not yet made any official comments regarding the complaint made.
McClain sat down with the inspector general of NASA and apparently admitted to accessing Worden;s information. However, she said she was doing a routine check up on finances. She said she had done this while married to McClain to make sure there was enough money for their child.
She also said she used the same password and that Worden never asked her to stop using them. Her lawyer said that she is fully cooperating and that “she strenuously denies that she did anything improper.”
Worden said the FTC has not yet responded to her identity theft claims.
