President Donald Trump was acquitted after his impeachment trial on Wednesday after a vote in the Senate.
In December, Trump was accused by the House of Representatives of pressuring Ukraine to investigate Democrat Joe Biden. However, the Senate voted 52-48 to acquit Trump of the charge of abuse of power. Also, 53-47 on obstruction of Congress.
POTUS held copies of newspapers in his hands while he stepped on stage. The headlines on the papers announced his acquittal. He stated to the audience, “As everybody knows, my family, our great country and your president have been put through a terrible ordeal by some very dishonest and corrupt people.”
Adding, “They have done everything possible to destroy us and by so doing very badly hurt our nation.”
“We went through hell, unfairly, did nothing wrong, did nothing wrong,” President Donald Trump said. “I’ve done things wrong in my life, I will admit. This is really not a news conference. It’s not a speech. It’s not anything. It’s just we’re sort of – it’s a celebration because we have something that just worked out. I mean it worked out.”
He made direct references to his critics including Senator Mitt Romney by saying, “I don’t like people who use their faith as justification for doing what they know is wrong.”
Trump also referred to Nancy Pelosi who led the charge against his impeachment. He added, “Nor do I like people who say ‘I pray for you’ when you know that is not so.”
President Trump also claimed this trial as a “witch hunt”. Adding that “it was evil, it was corrupt, it was dirty cops. It was leakers and liars and this should never ever happen to another president, ever.”
“I don’t know that other president’s would have been able to take it. Some people said no they wouldn’t have….It was a disgrace,” he continued.
Trump has been cleared of all charges.
