Up and coming actress Laurel Griggs was only 13 at the time of her passing.
According to her Dignity Memorial page, Griggs passed away on November 5. Her funeral took place on November 8.
Griggs was most known for her role as Ivanka in Once the Musical. She also appeared on Cafe Society. Her debut performance was in Cat on a Hot Tin Roof at the age of 6 years old. Griggs also made several appearances on SNL during her career.
Her grandfather David Rinlin shared the news on Facebook. “It’s with heavy heart that I have to share some very sad news. My beautiful and talented granddaughter, Laurel Griggs, has passed away suddenly from a massive asthma attack. Mount Sinai was valiant in trying to save her but now she’s with the angels.”
He added, “The world lost a real princess who only wanted to make the future happy for all. Acting was just a childhood dream come true and she had big plans for the future.”
Many people took to social media to express their condolences over her unexpected death. “So tragic. Did not know about her until I saw this. A huge loss for her family, community, performance arts, all….,” one person wrote.
Her Once the Musical costar Lucas Papaelias wrote on Instagram, “My @oncemusical family tragically lost one of our youngest members this past week. We are all heartbroken &devastated. Sending love and my deepest condolences to the family of @laurelgriggs_ who played the role of Ivanka on Broadway. we will never forget this sweet, talented young soul.”
