The City of West Hollywood has called for the authorized removal of Donald Trump’s star on The Hollywood Walk of Fame.
During a city council meeting on Monday, the council voted in favor of excluding the President’s star from the Walk of Fame. The advisory body urged the Los Angeles City Council and Hollywood Chamber of Commerce to eliminate the star, based on a unanimous decision of the City’s Council. Their decision is based on strong evidence against Trump: making transgressions toward minorities, women, and immigrants. It is hence deemed that he is not worthy of a place on the esteemed tourist spot.
The Mayor of the council, John Duran, took to Twitter to share his thoughts on the matter. He wrote, “West Hollywood City council unanimously passes resolution asking the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce to remove the Donald Trump star on Hollywood Walk of Fame. #horcruxdestroyed #bellicose #belligerent #unAmericanvalues #MakeAmericaintoAmericaAgain.”
While talking to CNN, Duran talked about how the decision to eliminate a star has been unprecedented in the history of The Hollywood Walk of Fame.
“Never have we intruded into our neighboring city’s business like this. But the circumstances compelled us to make an exception to the rule.” He continued, “The West Hollywood City Council did not pass the resolution because Donald Trump is a conservative or a Republican. Earning a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame is an honor. When one belittles and attacks minorities, immigrants, Muslims, people with disabilities or women — the honor no longer exists.”
The next move of the council is to send an official formal letter to Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti, the Los Angeles City Council and the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce.
Donald Trump was accredited with the star in 2007 to honor him for his work on Miss Universe pageants and for his participation in the long-running business show on NBC, The Apprentice. Donald Trump was taken aback by the incident of vandalism that occurred a few weeks ago, which had the police investigating the act of a man who allegedly smashed Donald’s star with a pickaxe.
While Donald thought of his inclusion in the Wall of Fame as a ‘special moment in his life’, the council now believes that such incidents of vandalism lend legitimacy to their claim of excluding his star from a wall it does not deserve to be a part of.
