Peter was the son of a Sheffield steelworker and had opened Stringfellows in Covent Garden after getting involved in the night-time trade in the early 1960s Peter had described his club in Covent Garden as the world’s premier gentlemen’s club. The ‘King of Clubs’ opened his clubs in many cities around the world. His eponymous club in the West End area of London was a regular venue for many celebrities.

Peter had said, “I went to a strip club in Fort Lauderdale, Florida in the 80s and loved it. I then immediately opened up Stringfellows New York and it became a great success as I changed it to a strip club.”

There were some big names that Peter Stringfellow had booked during his lifetime, including The Beatles, The Kinks and Jimi Hendrix.  Matt Grass stated that the Stringfellows club in Covent Garden will continue to operate ‘as normal’.

Peter was diagnosed with cancer back in 2008 but kept it a secret while only telling his family and friends – until it was leaked in 2015.
