Sir Alex Ferguson had an emergency brain surgery after being rushed to the hospital on Saturday night. The 76-year-old was taken to the Salford Royal Hospital in a 'serious condition' by his family, where he is currently recovering in the intensive care unit.

On Saturday night, Sir Alex Ferguson was rushed to the hospital due to a a bran hemorrhage requiring emergency brain surgery.

Manchester United, the club that Sir Alex managed for 26 straight years, informed fans about Ferguson’s condition through Twitter.

They said, “Sir Alex Ferguson has undergone surgery today for a brain hemorrhage. The procedure has gone very well but he needs a period of intensive care to aid his recovery. His family request privacy in this matter. Everyone at Manchester United sends our very best wishes.”

Sir Alex Ferguson’s son, Darren Ferguson, who is manager of the League One Club Doncaster Rovers, was not present during his team’s match against Wigan Athletic for ‘family reasons’.

Darren has requested for some alone time with his family. While respecting his decision the club said, “Darren asks for privacy, and will provide an update through the club during the week.”

Just last Sunday, the legendary manager was present at Old Trafford during Manchester United and Arsenal‘s game, where he presented Arsene Wenger with an end-of-season commemorative trophy for his services to the North London Club.

The former Manchester United manager won 38 trophies being during his reign at Old Trafford, including 13 Premier League titles and two Champions League crowns.

Before being one of the greatest and most successful managers of all time at Manchester United, Sir Alex played stints at various clubs including Queen’s Park Rangers, Dunfermline Athletic, Rangers, Falkirk, and Ayr United F.C. before retiring as a player in 1974.

After that, Sir Alex began his managerial career at East Stirlingshire and then soon after at St Mirren. In 1983, he moved to the Scottish club, Aberdeen, where he won 9 trophies and titles.

For his services to the United Kingdom, he was knighted by the Queen in 1999 after Manchester United won the Treble of the Premier League, the FA Cup and the UEFA Champions League, under his management.

Manchester United’s former captain and midfielder, Michael Carrick, said he was ‘devastated’ to hear the news about Sir Alex’s emergency surgery. Various different football personalities, clubs, fans and organizations also came forward to show their support for Sir Alex and wished him well.
