Los Angeles Earthquake: Strongest since 5 years hits California, on USA Independence Day.
A massive earthquake has scared residents during the celebration of USA Independence day, 4th of July.
Strongest Earthquake in years
According to The Los Angeles Times, a massive earthquake of 6.4 magnitudes hit Southern California on Thursday, 10:33 a.m. It centered a 100 miles from LA, in Searles Valley. It is a remote area in Kern County. Moreover, the earthquake is observed to be the largest one since 1994, of 6.6 magnitudes, ‘Northridge quake’.
The epicenter of the quake was reported to be 17km from Ridgecrest in California. It lasted about 30 seconds in the Los Angeles area.

Residents are shook
34-year-old journalist from southwest, Bakersfield told Los Angeles Times, “I was in my kitchen trying to get some coffee and all the windows started rattling,” She described the incident, “It was just a little bit at first — I thought something was going by, and then I realized all the windows were rattling. It was kind of a long gentle roll and I felt two distinct waves.”
In addition, another resident, Edith Mata, a student from Bakersfield College said, “I was laying down in my bed and I had my feet on the wall and I felt like both of the sides of the house were moving and shaking so I ran, and grabbed my brother and kid and came outside.”
The 22-year-old explained that she had never experienced such an earthquake before. “The neighbors across the street were also outside with their whole family of five people. My kid had no idea what was going on,” Mata stated.

Damages not uncovered yet
As the massive earthquake took people by surprise during their Independence celebration, the Local emergency agencies were flooded with calls. The LAPD stated, “We are very much aware of the significant earthquake that just occurred in Southern California. Please DO NOT call 9-1-1 unless there are injuries or other dangerous conditions. Don’t call for questions please.”
Details on the damages or injuries caused by the massive earthquake have not been uncovered yet.
