MMA superstar, Conor McGregor, has been arrested after charges were filed against him for attacking rival fighters.
On Friday morning, Conor McGregor came out of Brooklyn’s 78th Precinct, handcuffed.
The previous night, the Irish professional mixed martial artist had turned himself after he was seen in a shocking video, hurling a metal trolley at his rivals’ bus, breaking the window as well as injuring some.
The incident occurred at the Barclays Center after media day promotion of UFC 223.
Ray Borg and Michael Chiesa were injured during the attack, and their matchups were canceled for the weekend. An official UFC statement said, “Flyweight Ray Borg, who was scheduled to face Brandon Moreno, was deemed unfit to fight as well due to multiple cornea abrasions.”
According to the police, Conor McGregor has been charged with three counts of assault and one of criminal mischief. The NYPD spokesperson said, “[McGregor] has been charged with three counts of assault and one of criminal mischief.”
After the video of him smashing the bus window emerged online, police had begun the search for him; even his plane was grounded in New York.
Along with McGregor, Cian Cowley, who is famous for Thai boxing and is nicknamed ‘The Warrior’, was also arrested and charged with one count of assault and another of criminal mischief. The NYPD spokesman confirmed that both Conor and Cowley will appear in front of a judge sometime today.
Dana White, UFC Chief, called the incident the “worst in the history of Ultimate Fighting Championship”. He also said, “It’s not that I don’t think he understood what happened. He justified it. It was justified to him.”
“I don’t think anybody is going to want to right now, everyone is going to be pretty disgusted with Conor McGregor right now. You can imagine he’s going to be sued beyond belief. This was a really bad career move for him,” White added.
It has also been reported that Conor has been stripped of his Ultimate Fighting Championship Lightweight Championship, and that the championship will now be competed for at UFC 223 between Nurmagomedov and Max Holloway.
Khabib Nurmagomedov, the Russian mixed martial artist and McGregor’s rival, said, “I am laughing inside. (Did) you break a window? Why? Come inside. You know UFC don’t let you come inside. If you real gangster why don’t you come inside? This is big history gangster place. Brooklyn. You want to talk to me? Send me the location. We have to talk? I am gonna come, no problem. I grew up like this. I don’t grow up throwing chairs at a window. This is not my bus.”
Conor McGregor had reportedly gone to the media event for a face off with Khabib Nurmagomedov. To this, Nurmagomedov said, “You don’t like Khabib and what happened, then fight him. You can come in here and do it legally. This fight is happening Saturday, we could have talked and made the Khabib fight right after, you could have done whatever you wanted to Khabib within the rules.
“But you want to grab 30 f***ing friends and come down here and do what you did today. It’s disgusting and I don’t think anybody is going to be a fan after this,” Khabib added.
Conor McGregor’s last game in MMA was in UFC 205, way back in November 2016, in which he captured the lightweight title from Eddie Alvarez at the Madison Square Garden, New York.
Tweets flooded in as the news about Conor continued to develop. Some fans on Twitter said Conor’s career will remain unharmed even after this incident.

Meanwhile, some viewers are calling the entire incident a publicity stunt.
Are we sure that this isnt some kind of ploy to work everybody over? UFC seems to do sports entertainment better than the WWE.
