Mattel has been manufacturing Barbie dolls since its inception, but this year it was time to make some changes.

The decision was based upon a survey, conducted by the company, where 86% of the mothers in the sample revealed they were worrisome of the kind of role models their daughters aspired to become.

Barbie decided to make a positive change and release 17 Barbie dolls modeled after leading ladies from all around the world. These new Barbie dolls form part of a collection called, the “Inspiring Women” series.

The previous dolls produced by the company adhered to model-like features and well-established notions of beauty. Well not anymore!
