The fan-favorite superhero, Spider-Man will not be returning to the MCU anytime soon according to the CEO of Sony.
Further adding, “We had a great run on the Spider-Man movies. We tried to see if there’s a way to work it out. The Marvel people are terrific people, we have great respect for them. But on the other hand we have some pretty terrific people of our own. Kevin Feige didn’t do all the work.”
Vinciquerra also said, “Spider-Man was fine before the event movies, did better with the event movies, and now that we have our own universe, he will play off the other characters as well. I think we’re pretty capable of doing what we have to do here.”
Back in August, news first broke out that Spider-Man might be eliminated from the MCU because of a fallout between Sony and Disney. This led to outrage amongst a lot of fans.
Fans were holding on to a little hope that the conflict might be resolved. However, after the Summit, Sony claims they have closed the chapter on Spider-Man’s return. Vinciquerra also claimed that there is “no ill will” between Sony and Marvel.
Furthermore, the CEO also added that “it’s a long life.” So, it is unclear when and if the superhero will ever make a return.
The latest Spider-Man film starred Tom Holland. The film earned more than $185 million for domestic Box Office. Holland told EW, “Basically, we’ve made five great movies. It’s been five amazing years. I’ve had the time of my life. Who knows what the future holds? But all I know is that I’m going to continue playing Spider-Man and having the time of my life.”
Adding, “It’s going to be so fun, however we choose to do it. The future for Spider-Man will be different, but it will be equally as awesome and amazing, and we’ll find new ways to make it even cooler.”
Moreover, Marvel will be launching its Phase 4 with Black Widow in 2020.
