Robert Downey Jr. will make an appearance in Marvel’s Phase 4.
According to Deadline, Downey Jr. will return as Tony Stark “Iron Man” in Black Widow. However, Marvel Studios has neither confirmed nor denied this news yet.
The 54-year-old actor joined the MCU with 2008’s Iron Man. The character received a heart-wrenching end in Avengers: Endgame after he sacrificed himself to save the world.
Recently, Robert Downey Jr. also won the best actor in a film award at the 45th Annual Saturn Awards for Endgame.
Now, the fan-favorite superhero will return to the screen in Black Widow. It features long-time MCU veteran Scarlett Johannson as the main character in her first standalone story. Other reported cast members are David Harbour (Stranger Things) and Florence Pugh (Midsommar).
The film will be directed by Cate Shortland and is written by Jac Schaeffer. It will be a prequel to Endgame and will follow the events before Captain America: Civil War. Furthermore, it is unclear whether Downey will make a cameo or will have a bigger role.
During San Diego Comic-Con, Shortland revealed details about the Black Widow movie. Saying, “I think that’s what drew me to the story, [Black Widow]’s got so many secrets, she’s got so much vulnerability and I think that’s what makes her such a great heroine”.
She further added, “In this film we get to understand her past and put the pieces of herself together and come out a whole person.”
Fans are excited about Iron Man’s return. They took to Twitter to express their happiness.
Black Widow is set to release on May 2020.
