Toby Emmerich, of the Warner Bros. Picture, announced the upcoming Matrix 4 back in August. The next chapter of the franchise will be directed by Lana Wachowsk.
Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss will be reprising their roles as Neo and Trinity respectively. Now, Variety has announced that the How I Met Your Mother star, Neil Patrick Harris will also be joining the star-studded cast.
Harris is famously known for his role as Barney Stinson in the American sitcom How I Met Your Mother and Count Olaf in A Series of Unfortunate Events.
The first film of the Matrix trilogy was released in 1999. While, The Matrix, The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions were both released in 2003. The films earned more than $1.6 billion at the Global box office.
Emmerich said about Matrix 4, “We could not be more excited to be re-entering The Matrix with Lana.”
Further adding, “Lana is a true visionary — a singular and original creative filmmaker — and we are thrilled that she is writing, directing and producing this new chapter in ‘The Matrix’ universe.”
“Many of the ideas Lilly and I explored 20 years ago about our reality are even more relevant now. I’m very happy to have these characters back in my life and grateful for another chance to work with my brilliant friends,” Wachowsk also said.
Furthermore, the Aquaman star Yahya Abdul-Mateen II is also joining Harris in the upcoming movie. Deadline has also reported that Jada Pinkett Smith might also be reappearing in the movie. Smith previously played the role of Niobe in the second and third films of the Matrix.
The release date for Matrix 4 has not been announced yet!
