The Handmaid’s Tale’s trailer for the third season has just dropped and fans are going crazy. The season will drop on June 5th.
Hulu dropped the new trailer for the third season of its adaptation of Margaret Atwood’s The Handmaid’s Tale. The show is the story of a dystopian society called Gilead, which is a totalitarian society in what was previously the USA. The society is facing a falling birthrate, and the leaders of the society are actively and militarily pushing a “return to traditional values”.
Offred, played by Elisabeth Moss, is one of the last few fertile women left. She is also one of the women who was forced into sexual servitude in an attempt to repopulate the world. Offset’s goal in this society is to survive and find her daughter that was taken away from her. The new trailer advertising the new season shows the birth of a resistance movement against those in control.
During the trailer, Elisabeth Moss’ Offred tells the audience what has happened in her world since season 2, when she chose not to leave Gilead. In the second season, the show deviated from Atwood’s concocted world drastically, and in the third season, Offred is now working at finding allies that will help her form a revolution against her oppressors.
The show first teased the third season during the Super Bowl in February with a parody of President Reagan’s Morning in America commercial from 1984. The parody goes to show that despite the fact that the show is based on a dystopian reality, there are some disturbing similarities between the show and the world today.
Season 3 will premiere on Hulu on June 5th.
