Priyanka Chopra has said sorry for the recent controversial episode of her American TV series, Quantico, which has sparked a lot of backlash for the star, both on social media and on Indian streets. The episode involves Indian nationalists framing Pakistan for a nuclear attack.
In the episode, 35-year-old Chopra, who plays the character of anti-terrorist officer Alex Parrish, plots a nuclear attack in Manhattan, New York in order to frame Pakistan.

The winner of the Miss World 2000 pageant received a lot of criticism from her Indian fans, accusing her of portraying Indians in poor light. This has caused her to apologize and clarify the situation.
Priyanka Chopra tweeted on Saturday, “I’m extremely saddened and sorry that some sentiments have been hurt by a recent episode of Quantico. That was not and would never be my intention. I sincerely apologise. I’m a proud Indian and that will never change.”
The episode, The Blood of Romeo, was released on June 1. Following the backlash, US network ABC said in a statement, “The episode has stirred a lot of emotion, much of which is unfairly aimed at Priyanka Chopra, who didn’t create the show, nor does she write or direct it. She has no involvement in the casting of the show or the storylines depicted in the series.”
They further defended Priyanka, saying, “Quantico is a work of fiction. The show has featured antagonists of many different ethnicities and backgrounds, but in this case, we inadvertently and regrettably stepped into a complex political issue. It was certainly not our intention to offend anyone.”
Priyanka’s Indian fans did not express their anger only by attacking her on Twitter; street protests were also held in the Indian capital city, New Delhi, on Saturday. People demanded that Priyanka’s Indian passport be canceled and that she be sent to Pakistan. It must be noted that India and Pakistan have experienced rivalry for decades.
You are neither sad nor sorry, we all know that, this tweet is just a damage control mechanism…and you are working extremely hard to encash it..

Pakistan and India, both nuclear-armed, consider each other ‘arch-rivals’ and have fought multiple wars since their partition in August 1947. The episode was released days before the officials from the two countries were to meet for the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit in China for peace talks.
Chopra was recently also criticized for visiting Rohingya Muslims in Bangladesh as the UNICEF goodwill ambassador; Indians argued she was ignoring persecuted Hindus.
The makers of the US show announced in May that the current third season will be its last, after airing more than 50 episodes since 2015. Priyanka Chopra has won the People’s Choice Award twice for her role as Alex Parrish, a CIA Agent.
