Latest Kevin Spacey movie earns only $126 after #MeToo allegations
Spacey staring film 'The billionaire boys club' did disastrously at the box office on the first day of its release with a minimal amount of $126

Billionaire Boys Club, drama/thriller film starring Kevin Spacey, released earlier yesterday. The movie has so far performed horribly on Box Office.

This was Kevin Spacey’s first release after allegations of him sexually assaulting an actor. As a consequence, the movie only earned $126 on the first day of its release.

The movie has set a record-breaking low, with just $126 (£98) earned on its opening night in US cinemas. Despite having a famous cast including Emma Roberts, Ansel Elgort and Taron Egerton, the movie still failed to make its mark.

The Hollywood Reporter estimated that the movie had an average take of under $12.75 at each cinema it was shown in – less than the cost of two seats based on the current US average ticket price of $9.

Indie film distributor Vertical Entertainment announced in June that the movie would be granted a limited release in U.S. cinemas despite the sexual misconduct allegations against Spacey.

This was the last movie Spacey made before coming under worldwide media attention in October 2017, when actor Anthony Rapp accused him of sexually harassing him in 1986 when he was 14 and Spacey was 26. Just as the #MeToo was gaining significance, many other found the courage to speak out and accused the actor of sexual harassment and inappropriate sexual behavior.

As soon as the news of sexual assault allegations spread, Spacey, 59, was fired from the Netflix series House of Cards last year. He was also removed from the film All the Money in the World; his scenes were re-shot with actor Christopher Plummer.

However, the Vertical Entertainment announced that it would still go ahead with Kevin Spacey, as his role was minor.

In a statement released this year, the distributors of Billionaires Boys Club said:

We hope these distressing allegations pertaining to one person’s behaviour, that were not publicly known when the film was made almost two and a half years ago and from someone who has a small, supporting role in Billionaire Boys Club, does not tarnish the release of the film.

In the end, we hope audiences make up their own minds as to the reprehensible allegations of one person’s past, but not at the expense of the entire cast and crew present on this film.”

Film experts and critics say that once the movie releases in NYC and LA, it will fail to make even $1000.
