In a statement, the star of the show Hilary Duff said, “Gordo was an essential piece of the puzzle to what made the original Lizzie McGuire so authentic and beloved. I couldn’t imagine the series without him. I can’t wait for fans to see what he’s up to 15 years later and how he fits into Lizzie’s adult world.”

Furthermore, they officially announced the news through a video posted online. In the video, Duff expresses her excitement over the reboot. She says, “I’m so excited to be back, I’m so excited for you guys to come along on this journey with Lizzie. Obviously, the show would not be the same without her family, so I’m so excited that Jake Thomas is back playing Matt, and Hallie Todd is back playing Jo, and Bobbie Carradine, who plays my dad Sam —”

However, Adam Lamberg immediately cuts her off and jumps into the frame. He exclaims, “Wait, wait, wait. The fam’s not complete without me! Gordo’s back.”

Duff laughs and says, “Alright, now you can say it.”

To which Lamberg cheekily replies, “This is what dreams are made of.”

In the original version of Lizzie McGuire, Duff’s character becomes romantically involved with her best friend David “Gordo” Gordon. But the 32-year-old announced a few months ago that her character will be engaged to someone other than Gordo in the reboot.

Even though fans of the show are upset by the news, Duff said that she was not “as devastated by that.”

Adding further, “I feel like them not being together is what was so good … it’s that one person that you’re like, ‘Was he the one? Is it ever going to be?’You’re always kind of wondering. We wanted it to hurt everyone a little bit, and it’ll continue to hurt.” She also said that she is hopeful Adam Lamberg will be “involved.”
