Star Wars: The Last Jedi, directed by Rian Johnson, came out in 2017. Puppeteer Tim Rose, 62, who played the role of the fictional Admiral Ackbar revealed his opinion on the death of his character.  He expressed his frustration to YouTuber Jamie Stangroom in a recent interview.

The interview

The puppeteer admitted that the death of Admiral Ackbar should have been more dramatic. He felt that the off screen end to his character made it seem as a less important role.

He said “After waiting 30 years to reprise Ackbar I was a little disappointed with Ackbar’s role in that picture.”. In addition, he said “So in The Last Jedi, I was quite looking forward to maybe them giving him something more juicy.”

He hoped that the famous fictional character would be a little more involved onscreen, “We were only given the script on the day when we were shooting that piece of script, so each day I would come to work going, ‘Is today the day when Ackbar gets something a bit more involving?”

The Star Wars actor continued  “I was actually in tears in the suit because I thought – after everything, after hoping there’d be something, after knowing there wasn’t going to be anything else, Ackbar’s final moment before he went in to the box was a big joke about ‘It’s a wrap'”. The Mon Calamari who was famous for his dialogue “It’s a trap!” had been killed off in an unexpected way.

It didn’t justify his role according to Rose “They just thought, ‘Wouldn’t it be funny?’ And that was the sum total of my life as Ackbar. I disappeared down the back and couldn’t come out for 30 minutes after that.”

Fans React to Rose’s disappointed

Some fans agreed with Rose and felt confused about the characters off screen death.
