Ocean’s 8 is a heist comedy film directed by Gary Ross. It is a spin-off from Steven Soderbergh’s Ocean’s series and is centered around an all-female cast. Anne Hathaway, Rihanna, Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, Mindy Kaling, Sarah Paulson, Awkwafina and Helena Bonham Carter are all part of the star studded cast. The movie will follow these women as they attempt to rob the Met Gala. Their leader is Sandra Bullock’s character, Debbie Ocean, the estranged sister of Danny Ocean.

For Anne Hathaway, Ocean’s 8 was her first movie after giving birth to her son, Jonathon Rosebanks Shulman. During her interview with Ellen, she said that despite having been in the business for a long time and having come to terms with the pressure to look thin, it was a different experience entirely after giving birth.

She told Ellen, “It was really significant for me because it was my first movie after having my son. One of the lucky things about being in this business for so long is that I’ve really kind of come to terms with the pressure that you get to look a certain way as an actress and I don’t beat myself up about any of that stuff anymore. But after I had my son, the weight was really slow to come off and so I was a different size than I normally am.”

She said that the director of the movie, Gary Ross, reassured her that she would be providing representation for a range of body types and making a positive contribution. However, she had still been wracked with nerves when was going to set the first day. Her costars immediately put her mind at ease, however.

She explained, “I walked on the set, and, you know, my weight’s a little up and I’m just aware of it. And I walk on the set and I’m my jeans, and I’ve done my best and I’m going to love myself no matter what. And Sandy Bullock looks up and goes, ‘Looking good, mama!’ And it made me feel amazing!

She added, “Cate Blanchett’s like, ‘Nice jeans, Hathaway! And then Rihanna looks up and goes, ‘Damn girl, you got a a**!’ And I of course freaked out and loved it so much. I was like, ‘Really?!’ And she goes, ‘You got a a** like me!

Hathaway said that working on set was a huge ‘love fest’ and she was proud of being part of a team that dispelled rumors about women working together. She explained, “It was just this huge love fest, which was great because there’s this terrible rumor out there that women can’t get along and, man, did we just murder that rumor. We just loved each other so much. It was just so special.
