After a decade long search for the lost vocal performance, a previously unheard Freddie Mercury track will soon be released. It was originally recorded in 1986 for the soundtrack of West End musical Time. Musician Dave Clark created it.

However, the version released this month is a different vocal take. The Queen Frontman recorded the new version. A solo piano accompaniment has replaced the 1986 backing track. Clark founded the 60s hit makers, the the Dave Clark Five. He said he spent years looking for the Mercury vocal.

Clark said, “The version rehearsed at Abbey Road was just Freddie with a piano. It was magic and it gave me goosebumps. The produced version ended up with 48 vocal tracks. It took me years to track down the original master tape of just Freddie singing.”

Virgin/EMI will release Time Waits For No One on June 21. It will be accompanied by a film of Mercury performing and talking about the song.  Dominion Theatre will capture this. The powerhouse vocal stretches Mercury’s voice to its limits claiming to be among his best performances. If the Bohemian Rhapsody biopic is a box office success, more unheard Queen tracks could be released.
