Willy Wonka’s Denise Nickerson has passed away after being “taken off life support after suffering a seizure”. The actress lived out her last days at the age of 62.
Willy Wonka’s Denise Nickerson
Nickerson starred in Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory in 1971. She played Violet Beauregarde, one of the five lucky children who get to enter Willy Wonka’s chocolate factory.
Last year, Nickerson suffered from a stroke. On Monday, she was reported to have taken a number of medicines. Her family rushed her to the ER shortly after. She was then diagnosed with pneumonia. On Tuesday, she suffered from a seizure. She was then put on life support.
However, her condition continued to worsen. Her family decided to remove her life support. She then passed shortly afterwards.
Taken off life support
Her family told TMZ that Nickerson had been taken off life support on Wednesday. Her IVs were removed and she was no longer getting medicine.
She lived out her last days with son Josh and his wife Denise. Her son also started a GoFundMe to fund her cremation wishes and turn her ashes into glass art. At the time of writing, the fund had collected $365 of it’s $10,000 goal.
“We don’t know how much time she has”
Her GoFundMe contains a passionate plea from her family for donations. The details revealed, “Jasmine had an appointment to see her doctor for the baby. Josh drove up there and then went back home to Denise. In the 7 minutes we were gone, Denise got into her medicines and took as much as she could. Josh stopped her and rushed her to the ER. At some point during this event, she aspirated, and caught pneumonia. She was stabilized and kept for observation.”
Nickerson’s family continued to reveal that she then had a seizure. The pneumonia also stopped her body’s CO2 emission. She then went into a coma and had multiple seizures. Her family wrote, “At 3AM we decided because the machines and medicines are not helping her but only making her more uncomfortable, that its okay to stop administering these things to her.”
They continued, “We are heartbroken and reliving a grief we’ve lived every single day since she had the stroke over a year ago.”
“We need help”
The appeal continued, “But we need help. We cannot afford to pay for death expenses. Although she had the fame and notoriety, there is no inheritance. No life insurance. No end of life nest egg. Just our income which isn’t even enough. And Denise’s wish is to be cremated and her ashes made into a piece of glass art.”
The family said they need help for the cremation expenses and their household items. They wrote, “We will need to urgently pay for these things as well as need help with our home expenses. Rent, bills, groceries. Jasmine is not working due to her caring for Denise and trying to apply for jobs while home sick and pregnant, and Josh is missing work from both jobs to be here in the hospital.”
