The Voice judges are paying tribute to Janice Freeman after the season 13 contestant died prematurely at the age of only 33-years-old.
Freeman participated in the show in season 13 in 2017. She was on Cyrus’ team and made it to the top 11 of the show. Her family revealed on her Instagram account that she died from an “extreme case of pneumonia and a blood clot that traveled to her heart”. The note added, “While at home her husband Dion performed CPR until the ambulance arrived. She passed away at a local hospital shortly after.”
They also said that she was a “beautiful force in the world” who “inspired fans nationwide having successfully battled cervical cancer and living her life to the fullest while fighting lupus”. Freeman’s husband Dion wrote, “She struggled every single day. She was constantly in pain-literally, for years – but was sure she would conquer it all. She just kept on fighting.”
After her death, Cyrus posted a picture of a rainbow on Instagram and wrote “Thank You, Janice Freeman…for everything. This represents you perfectly”. Jennifer Hudson also paid tribute by sharing a clip of Freeman singing Radioactive by Imagine Dragons, captioning it, “The voice of hers we got to hear and the bit of life we got to watch her live was a blessing and inspiration to us all! My heart and prayers go out to Janice Freeman’s daughter and family!”
Freeman is survived by her husband Dion, daughter Hannah and mother.
