Wedding Crashers star Vince Vaughn was released after his arrest on Sunday morning for drunk driving. This is the star’s first DUI offense.
The 48-year-old actor was arrested early yesterday morning for driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs on Manhattan Beach, California. Vaughn had a passenger in his car who was also taken into custody. Both the actor and his passenger were charged for public intoxication and resisting, delaying or obstructing officers. The men were taken to Manhattan Beach jail and later released.
Vaughn was taken into custody once before in 2001, when he took part in a bar fight in Wilmington, North Carolina. Actor Steve Buscemi was stabbed in the face, throat and arm during this fight when he tried to intervene in the fight between Vaughn, Scott Rosenberg and another patron at the bar. Charges of assault against Vaughn were dropped soon after the incident.
He has previously spoken out to GQ British about legalizing drugs to stop drugs wars. He said, “I look at the drug wars and they are absolutely f***ing ridiculous. There is a black market and the prisons are overcrowded and it’s not preventing drug use. There’s a corruption that goes all the way to the top.”
He said he would decriminalize drugs for sure, arguing, “It’s insane. I’m not saying that drugs can’t be dangerous but not everyone that does drugs is going to go out and hurt somebody.”
The actor also elaborated that drug usage is a normal part of everyone’s adulthood. About the early days of his career, he said, “I enjoy a few drinks and there was a stage back there where I realized I was going out and drinking until 2am five nights a week, but you grow out of that stuff. Just like experimenting with drugs, it’s part of growing up, a choice that everyone has to make or not make. You realize what works and what doesn’t work.”
The actor has two kids, Lockyln, 8, and Vernon, 5, with wife Kaya Weber.
