Tom Hardy to return for ‘Venom’ sequel and reprise his role as Eddie Brock as confirmed by Amy Pascal.
Sony’s Marvel project, Venom had a large production and marketing budget. Even though some fans were unhappy with the film, Venom remained a major hit at the box office. Tom Hardy has been confirmed to reprise his role of investigative journalist Eddie Brock in the upcoming sequel.
Amy praises Tom Hardy for his contribution
During an interview with Fandango, Spider-Man franchise producer Amy Pascal confirmed Tom Hardy’s return for Venom 2, saying: “I can say that Tom Hardy will be back, magnificently playing that character as no one else can.” When asked why Venom would be back for its second edition, she revealed the 41-year-old actor had a lot to do with the decision.
She said, “It’s a couple of things. One of them is that Sony did a great job creating that franchise and giving it a life and giving it its own world. Then there’s Tom Hardy. When you think of Venom, you’ll never be able to think of anyone but Tom Hardy sitting in that bathtub of lobsters. And once you saw Tom Hardy do this character, that’s all you needed to know.” The first Venom movie received poor reviews from critics, but was one of the highest grossing films of the year after making $850 million (£667 million) at the box office.
Venom remained a success at the box office and Amy Pascal credited Tom Hardy’s performance for it.
According to Digital Spy, Venom 2 is set to release on October 2, 2020
Tom Holland to cross paths with Venom?
However, the producer also dropped major news that they have “big plans” for Tom Holland’s Spider-Man which she said might cross paths with Venom in future films. “We have big plans for Tom Holland to be a part of everything,” she said. And when asked to expand on her meaning of “everything”, she joked: “Every movie we ever do! He needs to be in every movie that I ever work on!”
Furthermore, Venom follows Eddie Brock as he attempts to revive his journalism career by investigating the Life Foundation only to come into contact with an alien creature that bonds with him, granting him powers and transforming him into the anti-hero.
To add more, nothing has been heard regarding the return of director Ruben Fleischer as of yet. So there are good enough chances that someone else might be around to oversee the franchise.
Spider-Man: Far From Home will be out in the UK on 2 July.
