Victim’s mother is furious at Kim Kardashian for helping son’s murderer Kevin Cooper. The grieving mom is “sick to [her] stomach” at KKW’s actions.
Kim Kardashian West has been on a prison reform mission ever since her role Alice Marie Johnson’s release. She is helping non-violent drug offenders escape life sentences. Since the start of her advocacy, she has helped release over 17 inmates.
Kardashian’s most recent case is that of Kevin Cooper. In 1983, Cooper was convicted of using a hatchet against his neighbor’s children in Chino Hills, California. Doug and Peggy Ryan died, along with their daughter Jessica. Their 8 year old son Ryen survived. Mary Ann Hughes’ son Christopher was sleeping in the house at the time, and was also killed.
On Thursday, Kim met Cooper in San Quentin prison. While there, she lobbied Jerry Brown and Gavin Newsom to order more DNA testing that would prove his innocence. Cooper has maintained from the start that he was framed.
Kim tweeted, “I am hopeful that Kevin will be exonerated since DNA testing has now been ordered on Kevin’s case and I remain grateful to Governor Newsom for ending capital punishment in California.”
She also wrote, “I had an emotional meeting with Kevin Cooper yesterday at San Quentin’s death row. I found him to be thoughtful and honest and I believe he is innocent of the crimes for which he was convicted.”
“Sick to my stomach”
Hughes told TMZ, “It makes me feel sick to my stomach and I pity her. For what she’s doing to us, there’s nothing to justify what she’s doing to us, the immense pain she is causing us.”
Additionally, she said that the KKW Beauty owner “obviously has not read all of the actual evidence. She has bought into half truths perpetrated by the defense. If she actually sat down and read the transcripts of all the trials and appeals, she would be sick to her stomach to be in the same room with him.”
“Using her for her reality show status”
Hughes added that Cooper’s lawyers “are using her for her reality show status because they can’t use the truth to try to help Kevin Cooper. The truth just condemns him.”
She also said that he’s “100 percent guilty and the evidence shows it. If you want the whole truth, read the 94 page document on the website of the San Bernardino County D.A.” The document in question was filed after Cooper requested clemency.
“She is supporting a rapist and a murderer”
Hughes added, “She portrays herself as being for women’s rights and for the women’s movement and yet she is supporting a rapist and a murderer.” She is referring here to a woman who testified against Cooper during the murder trial, and had previously claimed that Cooper raped her in 1982.
Hughes concluded that Kim Kardashian “has not reached out to us. I would not even want to talk to her. My opinion of her is about as low as it goes because of what she’s putting my family through … dragging this through the press on a non-stop basis.”
Kim has not replied to Hughes’ statements so far.
