Selena Gomez has officially broken her silence on childhood friend Demi Lovato’s overdose. Lovato is currently in rehab after leaving the hospital.
Lovato suffered an overdose in her house in LA on July 24, and was revived by emergency services using Narcan. After news of her condition broke, thousands of fans and celebrities reached out to profess their love and support for the Skyscraper singer.
Although reports at the time suggested that Selena was extremely emotional at what had happened to Lovato, she did not say anything about the issue publicly.
During a recent interview with Elle, Selena finally spoke out, saying, “All I’m saying is, I reached out personally. I didn’t do a public thing. I didn’t want to. I…I love her. I’ve known her since I was seven. So…it’s…that’s what I’ll say.”
At the time of the overdose, Selena’s mother took to her personal Instagram to write, “This was exactly 10 yrs ago at S, Sweet 16. @ddlovato we love you. The world is a better place because of these infectious smiles. My heart hurts.”
Gomez also talked in the interview about selling her house in Calabasas to French Montana and moving to Orange County with a friend from church. Selena said, “It’s been such a release. L.A.’s just gotten really claustrophobic for me. I can’t do any of the things I do here in L.A. It’s just impossible.”
The 26-year-old singer is also selling her Texas house, and said, “I think everything in my life is being majorly downsized, in a very good way. I’m going back to simplicity. That’s always who I’ve been. It’s not me saying, ‘I feel the best I’ve ever felt,’” she continued.
“It’s me saying, ‘I’m exactly where I am. And I’m so happy I’m in this place.’ It’s a lot of self-discovery. From 20 to 26? Oh my gosh. I feel like a totally different person.”
Gomez is also currently working with the non-profit A21, which serves to stop human trafficking.
