Season 3 Tribute
Aguirre-Sacasa revealed in an interview with The Wrap, “We’d started writing the end of the season and we made the decision to not address it at the end of Season 3 because we felt it would be rushed. We felt it wouldn’t be the right way to honor neither Luke nor the character Fred.”
Additionally, he said on deciding to pay a tribute in season 4, “So we decided not long after the tragedy that we would wait and do a tribute to Luke and honoring his memory and deal with losing Fred Andrews at the beginning of Season 4.”
The ending of season 3 left fans intrigued and in deep anticipation for season 4, giving the writers and Aguirre-Sacasa time to honor the late actor appropriately.
“Luke was one of the hearts of the show”
In a previous interview, Aguirre-Sacasa told The Hollywood Reporter about Perry’s sudden death, “It was just devastating,” he said, ““And we wanted to honor Luke, and figure out the best way to handle the character of Fred Andrews in the show.”
He added, “Let’s not squeeze, let’s not rush to squeeze something into the finale, or into the last couple of episodes, let’s really think about it, and let’s tell that story at the beginning of season four.”
He described Perry as “one of the hearts of the show.” He added, “We wanted to take the time to understand how the show will change [without Fred], and how we could best address that.”
Riverdale Season 4 premieres in October.
