R Kelly’s sexual assault charges have increased by 11 counts from victims between 13 and 16 years old. Kelly was already facing litigation in reference to these charges.
According to Dailymail, Chicago prosecutors charged Kelly with an additional four counts of aggravated criminal sexual assault, two counts of criminal sexual assault by force, two counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse, and three counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse.
The victims happen to be between the ages of 13 and 16 years old. The four aggravated criminal sex assault charges are class X felonies in the state of Illinois, which are punishable by 6 to 30 years in prison. All of the 11 charges are felonies.
Statements by the attorney
Steven Greenberg, Kelly’s attorney told Chicago Tribune “We’ll see what it is, and we’ll deal with it accordingly.” Kelly was previously charged with 10 counts of criminal sexual abuse charges back in February. R Kelly’s sexual assault charges involved women were under the age of 17 during the time of the assaults.
One out of the four women had filed a $50,000 civil suit against key and claimed to have met Kelly in May of 1998. The woman claims that Kelly had seen her and pulled his car up next to hers so he can talk to her; she was a minor at the time. Later on that same day, Kelly’s associate had met the girl along with her family and had given the singer’s phone number.
The associate claims that Kelly wanted the girl to come to his studio. The suit alleges that “Kelly wanted the girl to be in a video he was making. [She] was star struck and wanted to meet the defendant to pursue a role in what she believed was a music video”.
The woman claimed that Kelly had abused her a month later and it had lasted for a year. She claimed to have had sexual intercourse with Kelly along with oral sex as well. Her statement read, “During these repeated incidents, [Kelly] represented to the minor plaintiff that this behavior was appropriate.”
“Means nothing to us”
Darrell Johnson, Kelly’s publicist, said in April, “We don’t care about the lawsuit,’ he said. ‘The lawsuit means nothing to us”. Kelly has pleaded not guilty for the above mentioned charges. Kelly spent a weekend in prison on the sex charges. On February 26, Kelly paid $100,000 and walked out.
R Kelly returned to jail on March 6 for non-payment of child support shortly after his appearance on CBS This Morning with Gayle King. On March 6, he paid his ex wife Andrea Kelly $161,000 and walked out of jail once again.
