Prince William and Kate Middleton to visit Pakistan for the first time in Fall 2019.
Kensington Palace released a statement on Saturday, announcing that the Royal couple will be visiting Pakistan in 2019. The statement read, “The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will undertake an official visit to Pakistan at the request of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office. The visit will take place in the Autumn.”
This will be the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s first visit to Pakistan. However, the couple has visited Pakistan’s neighboring country India in 2016.
Other Royals have visited the country before. On Instagram, the Palace shared, “Her Majesty The Queen visited Pakistan in 1961 and 1997, and The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall visited in 2006.”
It is still not known whether the couple’s children will be traveling with them. They have three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis.
Royal Visits to Pakistan
In 1996, Prince William’s mother, Princess Diana also visited Pakistan. She attended a charity event for the Shaukat Khanam Memorial Cancer Hospital. Diana also met with cricketer Imran Khan, who is the current Prime Minister of Pakistan.
The High Commissioner for Pakistan to the United Kingdom, Mohammad Nafees Zakaria, also tweeted about the upcoming Royal visit. He wrote, “Government & the people of Pakistan warmly welcome the announcement of the @KensingtonRoyal of the Royal visit by TRH The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge to Pakistan this year.”
He continued further, “People of Pakistan cherish & fondly recall visits of Her Majesty The Queen Elizabeth II to Pakistan during 1961 and 1997. Upcoming Royal visit reflects the importance UK attaches to Pakistan. Both countries enjoy historical links & wish to strengthen further.”
