Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has instructed its air hostesses regarding how much weight they should be losing per month to keep their jobs.
A PIA circular said that air hostesses that have 30 pounds above the weight limit should start by losing 5 pounds a month. They have to shed weight like this until July after which they will be evaluated again.
If they do not manage to comply with the weight loss requirements, those that are above will be grounded and referred to the medical team for evaluation and treatment until their weight is in accordance with the BMI for their height.
PIA rules and regulations dictate that air hostesses should not weigh more than 150 pounds if they are at a height of 5 feet 5 inches.
The air hostesses themselves have responded with concern to this dictation. They said the required weight loss is a tall order given the reality of their job. They also said they would challenge the stipulation in court if PIA does not revoke the harsh ruling.
Just a little while ago, PIA faced criticisms when it was forced to fire 3 pilots and 50 cabin crew members when their degrees were found to be fake. A Supreme Court order demanded the termination of their contracts.
Pakistan’s finance minister called the Airlines a ‘black hole’.
