Nipsey Hussle’s accused murderer has pleaded not guilty to charges after being held on $5 million bail. Hussle was shot and killed at 33 years old.
Eric Ronald Holder, 29, who was arrested on the charges of murdering Hussle, pleaded not guilty to murder through his attorney, Chris Darden, during a Los Angeles Superior Court brief. He appeared in court behind bars and only spoke to acknowledge his rights. He was ordered held on a $5 million bail.
Holder’s attorney Chris Darden is the LA Country departure district attorney who unsuccessfully prosecuted former football star O.J. Simpson for murder in the 1990s.
Holder is being accused of shooting Hussle, whose real name is Ermias Asghedom, multiple times outside the Marathon Clothing store in south Los Angeles and injuring several other people in the gunfire. Holder was then taken into custody after a caller called in and reported that a suspect was seen in the Los Angeles suburb of Bellflower. A woman drove Holder away from the scene but she has not yet been arrested. Holder is now facing a maximum sentence of life in prison without parole.
On Monday, a vigil happened for Hussle which ended up setting off a stampede that critically injured two people. In one of his last Twitter posts before his death, Hussle wrote “having strong enemies is a blessing”.
Hussle’s album Victory Lap was nominated for a Grammy.
