Stranger Things actress Millie Bobby Brown has deleted her Twitter over excessive cyber bullying after her photos were used as homophobic memes.
The 14-year-old got caught up in a wave of bullying as Twitter users used the hashtag #takedownmilliebobbybrown to spread memes and homophobic slurs alongside the actress’ pictures.
The Stranger Things star has been known to support LGBTQ rights and wore a GLAAD Together pin to the MTV Awards last year. She also continues to voice support for the Parkland shooting survivors. None of the statements or slurs were quoted from her. It is not clear yet where this trend originated, but it has driven the young actress to delete her account.
Her fans had a number of opinions about the bullying that drove her off the social media platform.

So apparently, Millie Bobby Brown deleted her Twitter account because of the excessive cyber bullying. Some false statements came out about her saying she was homophobic and people have been making these homophobic memes with Millie's face attached to it and people find it funny

Agreed. I am horrified that it has got to this point. I feel awful for Millie and am disgusted at people who continually bullied her to the point she deleted her Twitter & had to turn off comments on most of her IG posts. Millie deserves kindness not hate & harassment.

Brown mostly used her account for political tweets, daily events and updates about her boyfriend, Jacob Sartotius. She continues to maintain her Instagram account, and will presumably be using that for these things in the future.
A week before Brown deleted her account, actress Kelly Marie Tran also deleted her Instagram. She was being harassed for her role in The Last Jedi, and after several months of bullying decided to just take a break from social media.
Many celebrities before these two have taken to leaving social media due to hateful slurs. Leslie Jones quit Twitter in 2016 after racist memes and Daisy Ridley quit Instagram after backlash on her stance against guns.
Brown has not deleted her anti-bullying Twitter yet, which is under the handle @MillieStopsHate. Her last tweet from this account was in December 2017. Supporters of the meme trend have also taken to replying with homophobic memes to tweets from this account.
Although she has deleted her Twitter for now, there is no official word from her or her representative about this decision. She has also not made it known if she plans to return to the platform.
Brown is set to reappear as Eleven on Stranger Things season three. She is also currently working on a number of other projects such as Godzilla: King of the Monsters and Enola Holmes. She is producing the latter, in which she will appear as the sister of Sherlock Holmes.
