In an interview with CNN to discuss his venture I Promise  schools, James said that the President of the United States uses “sports to kinda divide us.” Trump has often criticized the NFL for not punishing the players that protest his policies by refusing to stand up during the National Anthem. LeBron also said he “would never sit across” from Trump, adding that he would have been happy to sit across and talk to Obama. He also took to Twitter late last year to say, “Going to [the] White House was a great honor until you showed up!

In response, Trump took to Twitter to write, “Lebron James was just interviewed by the dumbest man on television, Don Lemon. He made Lebron look smart, which isn’t easy to do. I like Mike!

By Mike, the president is referring to Michael Jordan, whose rep told NBC what the star thought about his feud. The rep quoted Jordan, saying, “I support L.J. He’s doing an amazing job for his community.” Don Lemon also responded to the President on Twitter, writing, “Who’s the real dummy? A man who puts kids in classrooms or one who puts kids in cages? #BeBest.

Despite the clashes between LeBron and the President, First Lady Melania Trump has released a statement appreciating James for the I Promise schools program, which he is setting up alongside Akron Public Schools.

The rep also added the First Lady’s own initiatives are very similar to LeBron’s and that she would want to visit the schools in the future. The rep said, “As you know, Mrs. Trump has traveled the country and world talking to children about their well-being, healthy living, and the importance of responsible online behavior with her Be Best initiative. Her platform centers around visiting organizations, hospitals and schools, and she would be open to visiting the I Promise School in Akron.
