Kevin Hart is being criticized for wishing Jussie Smollett well after the latter was recently the victim of a homophobic attack in Chicago.
Jussie Smollett was recently attacked by two men yelling racial and homophobic slurs at him in Chicago. Many celebrities took to social media to react to the incident and wish Smollett well. Among them was Kevin Hart who expressed his feelings on social media.
Hart wrote on Instagram, “Sending prayers your way @jussiesmollett…This is unbelievably sad. Why are we going backward….this is disgusting. We as people have to do better. WTF is going on the world???? Why are we falling in love with hate???? God damn it, people…Choose love…I repeat…Choose love. I will forever choose love and I will continue to teach my kids how to do the same. Stand strong brother.”
Many of his followers immediately jumped on to Hart’s wish to criticize him for his double standards. One wrote, “You were just throwing hissy fits about not being able to make homophobic jokes. This is disrespectful honestly.” The criticism is in relation to Hart’s Oscar controversy, wherein he initially refused to apologize for the homophobic comments he once made.
Although Hart did not delete his initial message, he followed up with, “Operation spread love is in full effect damn it. I don’t condone or believe in hate, in fact, I despise it. Hate makes me sick to my stomach…It’s pointless. Cowards and weak individuals embrace it. I choose love…I love all of you. I challenge the rest of the world 2 do the same.”
Chicago police are currently investigating the attack on Jussie Smollett.
