Fans think Keith Flint’s last Instagram post was an indication as to his mental state, which caused him to commit suicide yesterday.
The Prodigy’s frontman was found in his home in Essex on Monday morning, having committed suicide. Fans of the 90’s legend immediately flocked to his Instagram account to pay their respects. His last post from all the way back in 2014 seems to be an insight into the musician’s mental state.
The 49-year old’s last picture is a disturbing close-up shot of maggots feasting away over rotting meat. There is no caption to the image or any explanation of how it found its way to the musician’s social media.
While talking to FHM in 2015, Keith did give an explanation of how he was feeling at the time, which might give some insight as to why he chose to post that photo. He said, “It was a dark period. I was drinking and taking too many drugs. The problem is, you’ve got s*** loads of cash and s*** loads of time and all you’re doing is looking for a buzz. I did f*** all really.”
Fans have taken that image as a place of tribute for the musician, and one wrote, “Rave won’t die anyway, he burns in our hearts”. Another said, “Thank you for your music, Keith. Your music shaped my life”. Yet another wrote, “Legends never die”.
While talking to The Times in 2009, Flint hinted at some of his more disturbing thoughts. He said, “I’ve always had this thing inside me that, when I’m done, I’ll kill myself. I’ve always had mental problems, so to speak. I’m incredibly self-destructive.”
Rest in peace Flint.
