Joy Behar is being criticized for an old blackface Halloween costume which has now resurfaced. Behar has been criticized for racist comments before.
A clip from back in 2016 of The View host resurfaced on Wednesday in which Behar said that she dressed up as a “beautiful African woman” to a Halloween party back when she was 29-years-old. She said that her makeup was “a little bit darker than my skin” but that her curls were real.
The crowd at the time did not push back on Behar’s comments even though Raven Simone did sarcastically ask, “Joy, are you black? Are you my auntie, Joy? Do you have tanning lotion on?”
Many people are asking for Behar to be fired after the clip resurfaced. This is especially because of how Megyn Kelly was treated when her comments about blackface surfaced. A Twitter user said, “Megyn Kelly was fired from her show for asking a hypothetical question about blackface. Joy Behar actually wore blackface, and admitted it, and showed a picture of it on TV, yet she still has her job.”
In October last year, Kelly said, “What is racist? You get in trouble if you are a white person who puts on blackface on Halloween, or a black person that puts on white face for Halloween. That was okay when I was a kid as long as you were dressing like a character.” She added, “I can’t keep up with the number of people we’re offending just by being normal people these days.”
Kelly’s co-hosts and her audience criticized her for her comments. The show was also canceled, despite her apologies.
