Jeremy Renner thinks Spider Man needs to return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe RIGHT NOW! Stars like Ryan Reynolds are making it known that they agree.
After the news that Spider Man might have to leave the Marvel Cinematic Universe, other superheroes are weighing in. Hawkeye actor Jeremy Renner posted about Spider Man returning to Marvel on his Instagram.
He wrote, “Hey Sony Pictures, we want Spider-Man back to Stan Lee and Marvel please, thank you.” His post immediately got over 1.4 million likes and 19.5k comments from fans agreeing with his statement.
The issue was created over a renewal of the deal between Sony Pictures and Disney. Previously, the companies had a deal where Disney received 5 percent of first dollar gross for the movies. However, it asked for a 50/50 split which Sony refused.
Sony Pictures issued a statement on the issue on Tuesday. A spokesperson tweeted that the decision to discontinue Spider Man was taken by Disney, the owner of Marvel Studios. The tweet read that it was “mischaracterized” as a decision taken by Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige.
The tweet read, “Much of today’s news about Spider-Man has mischaracterized recent discussions about Kevin Feige’s involvement in the franchise. We are disappointed, but respect Disney’s decision not to have him continue as a lead producer of our next live action Spider-Man film.”
Ryan Reynolds also weighed in on the controversy. A fan tweeted him and Tom Holland, asking, “Can we get a Spiderman and Deadpool movie now?” He replied, “You can. But you can only see it in my heart.”
Spider Man star Tom Holland has not yet commented on the issue.
