HBO responds to Starbucks coffee cup left in Episode 4 of Game of Thrones. The blunder was picked up by eagle-eyed fans.
In a press release on Monday, HBO addressed the coffee cup left in the middle of last night’s episode of the show, saying, “The latte that appeared in the episode was a mistake. Daenerys had ordered an herbal tea.”

Since the Starbucks cup aired at about the 17:40 minute in the episode, the hashtag #Starbucks has taken over Twitter. Art director Hauke Richter told Variety, “Things can get forgotten on set. [The coffee cup error has been] so blown out of proportion [because] it has not happened with ‘Thrones’ so far.”
Starbucks itself replied to the hilarious mistake by tweeting, “TBH we’re surprised she didn’t order a Dragon Drink.” Jenna Guillaume tweeted out, “You’re telling me they had TWO YEARS to put together a decent show and they couldn’t even spot the goddamn Starbucks cup in Winterfell??!?!”
Jemele Hill also weighed in, writing, “In a series that features fire-breathing dragons, incest, an army of dead people, giants, and 10-year old monarchs, it feels a little whiny that people are complaining the Starbucks cup is killing the realism of the show. Those bloopers happen all the time in TV.” Another fan of the show pointed out, “The most expensive commercial ever? Well played Starbucks.”
Episode 5 of the final season comes out on Sunday night.
