Gypsy Rose Blanchard is engaged to a man she met through the prison’s pen pal program. Blanchard was jailed in 2015 after murdering her mother.
The 27-year-old accepted a proposal from a man she met through the prison’s pen pal program according to family friend Fancy Macelli. Macelli said, “I mean it’s something that she’s been keeping under wraps for a little bit. It’s very exciting for her, she’s very excited.”
Macelli said that Gypsy was “very practical” about her engagement decision. Blanchard is currently serving a 10-year sentence for the murder of her mother, who suffered from Munchausen syndrome and misrepresented Gypsy’s age and medical condition to her. She even received benefits from charity organizations from around the world.
Blanchard went through years of unnecessary treatment and abuse and then pushed then-boyfriend Nicholas Godejohn to kill her mother. Godejohn is in prison for life. Blanchard plans to get married after being released from prison.
She will also be replacing the current borrowed engagement ring she has with a new one. Macelli said, “Another inmate was getting divorced and gave her that for her to just have so that she could feel good about it. They’ll go together and pick out rings, obviously later, at a time when she’s out and they could do that and have their own intimate moment.”
Blanchard’s fiance reached out to her after seeing a documentary about her, and Macelli revealed, “That turned into a relationship through email and then he went and visited her… That was the beginning of this friendship, which turned into something more than a friendship. At the beginning of this year, they decided to get engaged.”
While in prison, Blanchard is focusing on getting her GED, as well as pursuing her passion for photography and cosmetology.
