Game of Thrones Director reveals the real reason why Jon did not pet Ghost goodbye. Fans were livid at Jon.
Game of Thrones aired episode 4 of its last season this Sunday. In the episode, Jon Snow sends his pet direwolf Ghost further North with his friend Tormund. Despite hugging his friend goodbye, Jon did not even pet Ghost before leaving.

David Nutter, director of the episode The Last of the Starks, revealed that the emotional goodbye did not happen because of CGI problems. He told Huffington Post, “Since the direwolves are kind of CG creations, we felt it best to keep it as simple as possible. And I think that it played out much more powerfully that way.”
Nutter believed that the way Jon only looks at Ghost without petting him was better in his opinion saying, “Then he just walks off by himself, he turns to Ghost and has this moment with Ghost that I thought was very, very powerful.”
