Felicity Huffman pleaded guilty in US college admissions scandal along with 14 others, adding that she betrayed her daughter.
The actress insisted that she betrayed her daughter during her guilty plea, and admitted to committing mail fraud and honest services mail fraud. The star was accused of paying $15,000 to ‘fix’ her daughters test scores. Also to allow her to double the time to complete an exam.
The Desperate Housewives star said, “I am in full acceptance of my guilt, and with deep regret and shame over what I have done, I accept full responsibility for my actions and will accept the consequences that stem from those actions. I am ashamed of the pain I have caused my daughter, my family, my friends, my colleagues and the educational community.”
Huffman’s husband William H. Macy has not been charged with any crime himself. However, he was still present with his wife during her admission. Huffman now faces time in prison for her crime.
Actress Lori Loughlin and her husband Mossimo Giannulli were also involved in the controversy. However, they did not accept the plea deal being offered despite appearing in a Boston, Massachusetts court last week on the 3rd of April.
The couple had a bail set at $1 million. They were also required to hand over their passports in the agreement. They were accused of paying $500,000 to a school coach to create false reports of their daughters being in the rowing team to help them get admission into the University of Southern California.
Since the college admissions scandal was first unearthed, celebrities have taken to social media to boast about their own children’s honest acceptances. They have also cracked jokes about the large amounts of money paid to help celebrity kids get into schools.
The case is still continuing.
