Dwayne Johnson’s acceptance speech at 2019 MTV Movie & TV Awards, for the well deserved ‘Generation Award’ left his fans inspired and won everyone’s heart.
The award ceremony took place on June 18th and was hosted by Zachary Levi.
The 47-year-old actor made a vibrant entrance song ‘We Will Rock You’ playing along with dancers in the background. He won the Icon Generation Award and gave a wonderful speech. He thanked all his fans, and the “strong” women in his life.
Johnson said, “I thank you, all of you at home. You are the reason I’m getting this, I want to share a really quick lesson with you guys. I’ve learned the most powerful thing we can be is ourselves.”
He talked about his early experience in Hollywood, “When I first got to Hollywood, they didn’t know what the hell to do with me. I mean I was half black, half Samoan, six-foot-four, 275-pound pro wrestler.”
In addition, he shared about how he was told to change, “I was told at that time you’ve got to be a certain way, you’ve got to drop some weight, you’ve got to be somebody different, you’ve got to stop working out, stop doing the things that I love, you’ve got to stop calling yourself ‘The Rock.'”
“For years I bought into it and I was miserable doing that, so I made a choice,” he added.
Additionally, he stated, “The choice was, I wasn’t going to conform to Hollywood, Hollywood was going to conform to me.” He continued, “I’m proudly half-black and half-Samoan and I wanted to bring those cultures here for the world to see. So yes, it’s important that you are your most authentic self. I’m a walking example of that.”
He concluded his speech by sharing a quote, “It’s nice to be important but it’s more important to be nice.”
