Tragic accident leads to the death of Granger Smith’s son. Smith’s 3 year old son River Kelly Smith died due to a drowning accident.
The 39-year-old “Backroad Song” star delivered the sad news on Thursday. Granger said on his Instagram, “I have to deliver unthinkable news. We’ve lost our youngest son, River Kelly Smith. Following a tragic accident, and despite the doctor’s best efforts, River Kelly was unable to be revived.”
Granger posted a picture of himself and his son. Additionally, he wrote, “Amber and I made the decision to say our last goodbyes and donate his organs so that other children will be given a second chance at life. Our family is devastated and heartbroken, but we take solace in knowing our son is with his Heavenly Father. River was special. Everyone that met him knew that immediately.”
He added, “The joy River brought to our lives can’t be expressed and his light will be forever in our hearts.If there are words to say more, I cannot find them in this moment. Love the ones close to you. There has never been a more difficult moment for us than this. In lieu of flowers or gifts, please send donations to Dell Children’s Medical Center in River’s name. The doctors, nurses and staff have been incredible.”
While Granger did not make any additional comments, a rep for the country star confirmed to People magazine the 3-year-old “died in a tragic drowning accident at home.”

In addition, Amber also shared a selfie with her son on Instagram. Amber shared the same heartbreaking caption, beginning it with, “Nothing can prepare a mother to deliver this kind of news. We’ve lost our youngest son, River Kelly Smith.” The rest of her statement matches Granger’s.
