Yesterday, Beckham appeared at the Bromley Magistrates Court outside London, where he received six points on his license for a texting and driving incident captured by a fan on photo in November 2018. The six points added to the six points present for previous speeding offences, and this culminated in a driving ban. Along with the ban, Beckham was fined £750, as well as £175 in costs and fees.
Prosecutor Matthew Spratt said of the incident that happened on November 21, 2018 when Beckham was driving his Bentley in London’s West End, “Instead of looking straight forward, paying attention to the road he appeared to be looking at his lap. He (the witness) says that the defendant was operating a handheld device at knee level. At that moment a photograph was taken.”
Although Beckham pleaded guilty, his lawyer Gerrard Tyrrell said he had “no recollection of the day in question or this particular incident”. He added, “There is no excuse for what took place but his view is as he cannot remember.”
Beckham has not officially responded to the incident.
