Comedian Brody Stevens has committed suicide by hanging himself at the age of 48 years old. The comedy community has taken to social media to remember him fondly.
According to reports from The Blast, the comedian was found in his Los Angeles home on Friday afternoon, having committed suicide by hanging. His reps told E!, “Brody was an inspiring voice who was a friend to many in the comedy community. He pushed creative boundaries and his passion for his work and his love of baseball were contagious. He was beloved by many and will be greatly missed. We respectfully ask for privacy at this time.”
Stevens had been open about his struggles with mental health in the past. He said that he had struggled with depression and anxiety and discussing both these problems on his Comedy Central show Brody Stevens: Enjoy It. Zach Galifianakis once said on the show, “Brody was really in a dark place… I think he thought that was how his life was going to be and I think that got him depressed.”
Many people from the entertainment and comedy industry came forward to remember Stevens. Bob Saget wrote, “Such a funny man. Such a good man. We need you and your comedy. My heart goes out to his family and friends. Loved Brody. Rest In Peace kind soul”. Patton Oswalt wrote, “If you are depressed or feeling suicidal please please please please please reach out to ANYONE. I never get to see Brody Stevens again I can’t stand this.”
The 48-year-old was last seen at the Comedy Store on Sunset Strip.
