Cardi B recently avoided being arrested by a thin margin and got nominated for a Grammy all at the same time.
On Friday, Cardi B appeared in court in New York over a fight about a strip club incident.
The rapper arrived at a courthouse in Queens, New York at 9AM, accompanied by a lawyer and her bodyguard. She was accused of attacking two women, both of whom received orders of protection.
The incident happened in August, and the women involved were a couple of bartenders at a strip club in Flushing.
TMZ reported that the reason why Cardi attacked them was because she thought one of them was involved with her husband Offset. The couple have now broken up.
The rapper reportedly threw chairs and bottles at the women, and was charged with misdemeanor and reckless endangerment and assault. Cardi denied involvement in the fight at the time but surrendered in October.
During court proceedings, she was also told not to go near the women again or contact them ever again. In addition, she was forbidden from referencing them on the internet, tweeting at them or about them.
If she violates these terms and conditions, the Bodak Yellow rapper will be risking arrest.
Cardi was originally scheduled to appear in court in regard to this on Monday but she did not show up. Had she not shown up today, there was a chance that she would have been arrested.
She appeared in court in a black coat and a brown hat, with rainbow colored hair and a huge pair of sunglasses which shielded her eyes and a lot of her face.
The rapper was released of her own recognizance, and bail was requested but turned down. A lawyer involved in the case wrote at the time that Cardi B had “been arraigned in Queens Criminal Court. My office requested $2500 bail, but she was released on her own recognizance.”
A Twitter user speculated, “What was the point of requesting $2500 bail? Did you not think she would make it? Did you think it would help ensure her return to court? Is she really a flight risk when the paparazzi is all over her? It’s almost as if you just anted to dunk on Cardi B as a PR strategy.”
On the same day as the court hearing, Cardi was nominated for five Grammy’s, including for Album of the Year and Best Rap Album. A Twitter user wrote, “Cardi B nominated for several Grammys, as she arrives in court for a hearing. Talk about balance.”
Cardi B will have to be back in court again January 31.
