Angelina Jolie just made the most unexpected career move EVER, but it’s making her kids “happy”. Jolie has joined the Marvel Universe as Thena!
The 44-year-old actress is joining the Marvel Universe. MCU made the announcement at their panel during San Diego Comic-Con. Angeline Jolie will be starring in the Marvel Phase 4 movie The Eternals.
She also made a surprise appearance during their panel. Jolie told the audience, “I’m going to work 10 times harder because, I think what it means to be a part of the MCU and what it means to be part of this family, we know what the task is ahead. We know what you deserve… we are all going to be working very, very hard. I’m thrilled, thank you so much.”
This film will include an entirely new group of superheroes. The cast also includes Salma Hayek, Game of Thrones actor Richard Madden, Kumail Najiani, Lauren Ridloff, Bryan Tyree Henry, Lias McHugh, and Don Lee.
Jolie revealed to PEOPLE magazine that her 6 children are extremely excited about this news. “What’s really moving to me is that they want to see me strong, and so it’s less to see me in a film, but they’re just happy I will be strong and having fun,” she said.
She shares her children Maddox, 17, Pax, 15, Zahara, 14, Shiloh, 13, and 11-year-old twins Knox and Vivienne, with actor Brad Pitt, whom she recently divorced.
The Oscar-winning actress will be playing the role of Thena and is training excessively for the role, doing “everything from swords to ballet.”
Talking about her character, Jolie said, “She’s a warrior. I’m going to have to work very hard to give the Marvel Cinematic Universe the Thena they deserve.”
Chloe Zhao will be directing The Eternals. “I think Chloe is going to make a special Marvel film,” Jolie also said. “With all the love and respect for the others and what makes them work, we hope to add something new.”
Angelina Jolie is also currently starring in Maleficent: Mistress of Evil, the sequel to the 2014 Disney film.
The Eternals will be released in November 2020.
