New England’s Quarterback, Tom Brady, has sparked quite some controversy with the new episode of his Facebook Watch series, Tom v. Time, where he exchanged a lengthy kiss on the lips with his son!
The five-time Super Ball winner is all set to play this Sunday’s 2018 Super Ball and, interestingly, the kiss controversy has sprung not long before his match.
Tom Brady recently posted a video as part of his series, and immediately came under fire for one particular scene.
It begins with Tom lying down for a massage when his eleven-year old son, Jack, peeks in and asks if he can check his fantasy football standing. His father replies, “What do I get in return?”
Jack steps ahead and pecks him briefly on his lips. He moves towards the door to leave but pauses when Tom says, “That was like a peck!”
Jack then turns around and kisses Tom again on his lips, but for a little longer. He then moves back and wipes his lips with his tee shirt.
Tom is already famous for the tradition of kissing his family members on the lips. Brady was previously also seen pecking his father on the lips, after the Patriots’ win last year. He also posted a picture of him kissing his daughter in January 2017, titled, “Good luck, Daddy”
Brady has now been bombarded with tons of feedback, many terming his move and the ‘prolonged’ kiss to be weird – and even ‘psychopathic’!
“Tom Drady kissing his 11 year old kid on the lips and then complaining that it was “barely a peck” forcing him to go back for another loner weirder kiss on the lips is an absolute psychopath move,” wrote one Twitter user.
Another tweet said, “As someone who comes from (on one side anyway) One Of Those Kissing Families, I really wanted to be able to defend Tom Brady here, but… the kiss is pretty weird.”
Another user tweeted, “Tom Brady is one of my five favorite people (including family members), but him making his son come back and kiss him on the lips for a longer time because his first lip kiss wasn’t long enough is some very very disturbing.”
Tom Brady didn’t just receive mean feedback; many even made memes on the kiss!
One user wrote, ”I have relationships that didn’t last as long as Tom Brady’s father son kiss…”
This was followed up by another hilarious tweet, saying, “My hugs with my parents don’t even last that long.”
There were, however, many who supported Brady’s actions and tried to calm others, asserting that this wasn’t a big deal.
One fan tweeted about how this is a good thing, since all this shows is a loving dad. The user also added that people who think this is inappropriate should get their heads ‘out of the gutter’.
Fans also commented on how critics should rather focus on people who don’t express love or affection to their children.
They also quoted personal stories and preferences, asserting that kissing your child on the lips is very normal.
Tom Brady’s supporters also went on to calling his critics ‘ignorant’, and pointed out that affectionate behavior should be appreciated and reinforced, especially in ‘a world full of absentee fathers’.
Do you think this was a normal expression of affection, or was it a little too weird? Let us know in the comments!
